Wheat, one of the most widely consumed cereals, and its cousins (durum wheat, spelt, etc.) are an important source of carbohydrates. Whole wheat consists of all three parts of the grain: bran, germ and endosperm. It retains its natural nutrients and fibre. This is why whole wheat is rich in nutrients and, if consumed regularly, can help protect against chronic diseases, such as heart disease and stroke, some forms of cancer and type 2 diabetes.
